Studfall Infant Academy

Religious Education

At Studfall Infant Academy, we aim to nurture the children’s understanding of a variety of faiths so that they can understand the world around them. The aim of Religious Education in our school is to help children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and some other principal religions represented in Great Britain; to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour, develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Religious Education is taught throughout the school in such a way as to reflect the overall aims, values, and philosophy of the school.

Here at Studfall we believe that RE plays an important role, along with all other curriculum areas, particularly PSHE, in promoting social awareness and understanding in our children. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We include and promote British values, ensuring that children are aware of their rights and responsibilities as UK citizens.

We aim to provide the children with a range of experiences and enrichment opportunities that allow them to discover different faiths around them.

Some of these opportunities include:

  •  handling artefacts
  • exploring sacred texts
  • using imaginative play or drama to express feelings and ideas
  • responding to images, games, stories, art and music
  • meeting visitors from local religious communities
  • making visits to religious places of worship where possible, and where not, making use of videos and the internet
  • taking part in whole school events- (Harvest Festival, school performances)
  • participating in moments of quiet reflection
  • participating in assemblies
  • comparing religions and worldviews through discussion

Our curriculum is designed to allow our pupils to achieve and shine by encouraging their creativity, inquiry, imagination, discussion and independence.

The children at Studfall Infant Academy enjoy learning about other religions and why people choose, or choose not to follow a religion. Through their R.E. learning, the children are able to

  • make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world
  • develop an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life
  • extend their knowledge and understanding of religions and beliefs
  • develop a religious vocabulary and interpret religious symbolism in a variety of forms
  • reflect on questions of meaning, offering their own thoughtful and informed insights into religious and secular world-views

As such, R.E. is invaluable in an ever changing and shrinking world.

Parental Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

We respect the rights of parents and carers regarding their child’s education. Under current legislation, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) lessons. This includes activities related to Religious Education that do not form part of the statutory National Curriculum.

If you wish to exercise this right, we ask that you inform the school in writing, detailing whether you are withdrawing your child from all or specific parts of the RE curriculum. We are happy to discuss any concerns you may have and provide further information to help you make an informed decision.
